Day 315 – Who Needs a Kitchen Anyway?

51 – 100 Kitchen Designs

…speaking of kitchen renovations…

100 d├ęcor / design ideas and not a single one really jumps out and grabs me. Not that I’ll let that stop me from a renovation; it just means I’ll have to make it all up as I go along instead.

Day 314 – Glaze the Lot!

52 – 100 Ways to Cook with BBQ Sauce

I’m fairly certain we have a barbecue in the yard somewhere. It’s not my barbecue; technically it’s Abbey’s. She has however managed to craftily avoid using it so far, having found willing victims in myself, Callan and Ken.

I am really not much of a BBQ chef. It’s not that I can’t. It’s not that I won’t. I just do not have BBQ in my veins. Not the way Australians or Texans do.

Day 200 – Dan’s Party

Right now, I am frantically sorting through some 200 odd photos taken at Dan’s birthday party in the city. I want to cull it down to a decent 40-50 at most, post them to the proper place and then go sleep up for tomorrow at Wet’n’Wild.

Although the day started gloomy and threatened rain it ended as all Dan’s BBQs do… with a beautiful sunny day in the backyard. Alas for the last time, for everyone is moving. Sad times. But also glorious times, because now there will be new places to have BBQs.

I had a great time photographing, eating all the delicious foods people brought, and insulting and threatening the life of a garden gnome… twice. I must hasten to add that I had nothing against said gnome myself, but some of the house-mates were not so fond of it, and I was merely offering suggestions of suitable accidental disposal. You know… as good house guests do. I feel very misunderstood now.

Met some new interesting people too, which is good for at least one of my new years resolutions.

And now to get ready for my last day off before work comes crashing back onto my shoulders. I’m going to make the most of it by spending it in the sun and water. I intend to return to work a shell of my former self. What point in having a holiday only to return back to work relaxed and then waste it on the stress of catching back up? I have to burn all that off for my betterment before I go back.

Day 45 – Work BBQ

Alas, once again no picture. The moment I realised the work BBQ would be the best story for the day, everything had already been packed up.

So instead, I’ll ask you to imagine the following… It’s a sunny 29 degree day in Sydney. The CEO is in town, which is always an ideal occasion to have a social lunch at the same time.

Today’s feast: rolls, BBQ tandoori chicken, sausages, rissoles, beetroot, salads, mint sauce.

I get there relatively early so there is no queue, and I end up enjoying my meal in the shade at the table with 4 managers one level above me. I tend to not pay too much attention to that kind of thing, so it’s not really relevant to the day or my story.

Sorry, nothing scandalous happened.

Then I get up, chat a bit with my boss and the CEO in the sunshine before discovering there is dessert also.

I really should have had a picture of this, because I have no idea what it was. They were donutty balls with a hint of spice and cardamom in some delicious liquid… with vanilla ice cream. And since there was way too much of everything left over, I helped. I’m sure the scales will tell me off for my mistake tomorrow, but today I’m fine at least.

It was very tempting to stay out in the sun, but then work rudely called out its siren song.

Next time I promise to have my phone camera to hand.

Addendum: per Sin’s comment below, it’s totally Gulab Jamun (<- link to image search).
